Manufacturing a Designer Chair for Exhibition in Trafalgar Square The Project Engineer Auch Demeter, worked closely with Tom Dixon and team at his studio to make the EPS chairs a reality.
“The EPS chair that Tom designed was a great visual design, but also straightforward and workable to manufacture — and it surprised me how comfortable the chair is to sit on and how stable and strong it is. “We helped with our technical input and advice, for example we asked them to thicken certain wall sections for strength and we designed an interlock between the 2 parts of the moulding. We then produced a full scale EPS model using our CNC sample facilities, this allowed Tom and his team a final sign off on the design prior to making the production tool. “It is a project I am proud to have been involved with, it was really enjoyable to work on such a great design with one of the UK’s top designers.” |
