MP Opens First EPS Recycling Point
in Essex
On 8 July 2005, in Chelmsford town centre, Simon Burns MP opened the first EPS (expanded polystyrene) recycling point for householders and businesses in Essex.
The new EPS recycling point is on the property of local firm, Kay-Metzeler, in the centre of Chelmsford. It is open to consumers and businesses that want to recycle their used EPS boxes and packaging.
“I was deeply impressed to see the first and only polystyrene recycling point in Essex,” says Simon Burns MP.
“Everyone has become far more conscious of the importance of recycling and sadly there are far too few opportunities to recycle polystyrene. That is why I am so pleased that Kay-Metzeler has been a trailblazer, creating a turnkey operation that is not only good for the environment — it also makes sound economic sense.”
Kay-Metzeler takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously as Martin Shields, Operations Manager, explains: “We want to make people aware that used EPS packaging is a resource that can be usefully recycled into insulation board for construction — which also benefits the environment by helping to reduce a building’s fuel consumption.
“We are pleased to be able to offer this EPS recycling service to the local community and we hope householders and local business will work with us to increase the recycling of expanded polystyrene not only in Chelmsford but also in the surrounding area.
“Kay–Metzeler is committed to working in the community, both by offering this service of recycling EPS waste, and through a programme of presentations in Essex schools; these explain the process of making expanded polystyrene and the environmental advantages of recycling this resource.”
If you are a business in or near Essex with large quantities of EPS that could be recycled, call Peter Fox, Kay-Metzeler 01245 342105.
The Kay-Metzeler EPS recycling point is part of a growing network of recycling points that are being set up by the EPS Packaging Group in the UK. To find out if there is one near you visit www.eps.co.uk |
