EPS Packaging Group members scored highly at the 2004 Institute of Packaging Starpack Awards. SCA Tuscarora won two awards – Gold and Bronze and Styropack won Silver.
Tuscarora's Gold was awarded for an integrated materials pack that is universal to five different Rangemaster range-style cookers. The pack has an EPS top, base, front buffer and side panels, edge-guard and corrugated top cap and base tray that is shrink-wrapped for despatch. The creative design resulted in annual cost savings in excess of £100,000 for Rangemaster.
Carefully designed cavities within the EPS top moulding have made extra packaging for accessories unnecessary. And, the structure of this integrated materials pack can be easily adapted to accommodate new models of Rangemaster cookers, as they are introduced – achieving more future savings.
Styropack's Silver was awarded for a transit pack designed for Glen Dimplex Cooking Ltd. The universal pack was designed to fit 50 cooker variants. The outstanding results achieved for the customer included:
• Customer returns reduced by 25% creating a total saving £200k p.a.
• 40% improvement in handling
• 10% improvement in pack assembly time
• 15% improvement in vehicle loading/warehousing
Steve Roe – Group Quality Director Glen Dimplex Cooking Ltd comments: "Quality and customer service are paramount to Glen Dimplex Cooking, and it is vital that all our appliances arrive at their final destination in perfect condition.
