Update EPS Recyclers:

Recycling un-compacted EPS

If your business has used EPS, don't just send it to landfill — it can be recycled at no cost to you — one of these two companies could suit your requirements. You may even earn a small income to set against any costs that you could incur by establishing a recycling scheme.

Recycling un-compacted EPS

Springvale has been recycling un-compacted EPS material into its insulation board products since the 1970s.

Springvale manufactures packaging and construction products out of EPS and as such is an active member of both the BPF's Packaging and Construction Groups.

Springvale has been recycling un-compacted EPS material into its insulation board products since the 1970s. In the past two years improvements in processing has made it possible to step up this side of its business.

John Burn, Operations Manager, estimates that Springvale has the potential to increase its recycling operation up to 800 tonnes a year — the difficult part is getting the material.

“We need un-compacted EPS packaging. It has to be relatively clean but not pristine.

EPS packs that have been used to protect computers, TVs, fridges etc in transit are great for us. We'll accept delivery of even the smallest amounts at our site in Newcastle.

“A recent example of this is the Northumbria Police Force, it recently did an IT re-fit and we recycled all its EPS computer packaging that would have otherwise have been thrown away.

“We will collect larger amounts of used EPS from just about anywhere in the UK. We deliver our insulation board products to builders merchants, distributors and contractors all over the country, so using empty returning trucks to collect used EPS to recycle, makes environmental and economic sense.

“I would be happy to discuss collection options with any business that is looking for an outlet to recycle its used EPS packaging.”
