Get Inspired . . .
This November, Sir Paul Smith, the most successful fashion designer in British history, will publish a 'very big' book, You Can Find Inspiration in Everything.
The book, by and about, Sir Paul Smith, is encased in 'major shock proof packaging' — made of expanded polystyrene.
This unique book cover is designed by Jonathan Ive, designer of the iMac, fabricated by Springvale and sponsored by the EPS Packaging Group.
Smith's publisher, Robert Violette explains why EPS was chosen to cover this huge tome: "EPS is a modest, everyday material that everyone is familiar with. And it is environmentally friendly.
"This material is not pretentious or hi-tech but we have created a book cover that is beautiful and functional." The book is not a fashion monograph or a catalogue of suits.
It is full of original and often humorous thoughts and ideas. It contains short stories, articles, a comic book and a pull out board game. Collaborators include writers, journalists and illustrators. "Making a cover for a book like this is a very unusual and high profile use of expanded polystyrene" says Jonathan Haddock, Chairman of the EPS Packaging Group.
"As such, the Group has been delighted to support this remarkable use of EPS by sponsoring the development of the book cover. "We hope this will bring the EPS to the attention of the design world and the durability and protective qualities of EPS will make it first choice for other new projects."
You Can Find Inspiration in Everything will be in UK bookshops from the end of November, price £35
