Scotland Welcomes EPS Packaging Recycling Seminar
Scottish industry demonstrated its interest in recycling on 27 September 2001 at the Glasgow Science Centre.
Around 70 people from manufacturing, electronics, packaging, local authorities and academia attended the recycling seminar hosted by the Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Packaging Group.
We are delighted by the excellent turnout," said Jonathan Haddock, the Group's new Chairman who began his term of office during the afternoon of 27 September. "We put together an attractive programme that offered practical information about recycling EPS packaging and an update on producer responsibility legislation.
"We also invited a number of recyclers so that our delegates would be able to make direct contact with a recycler and begin the negotiations necessary to set up a collection scheme."
Speakers at the seminar were Karen Riddick, Senior Consultant, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Gerry Dallimore, Green Waste Recycling andAndrew Barnetson, Environmental Affairs Manager, EPS Packaging Group.
The presentations were followed by a lively Q & A session that included a number of queries directed at Karen Riddick by individuals checking out their own company’s legal responsibilities.
The EPS Packaging Group was very pleased by the interest in recycling in Scotland and is currently considering a smaller follow up event in 2002 to find out what progress has been made and to provide targeted information and advice to waste holders.
