On 10 October 2000 in Penang, Malaysia a landmark international agreement was signed by the Asian Manufacturers of EPS (AMEPS), European Manufacturers of EPS (EUMEPS) and US-based, Alliance of Foam Packaging Recyclers (AFPR).
The agreement commits members of the three EPS organisations representing 28 countries to an international agreement on recycling. It also called for a commitment to consistent environmental standards on EPS protective foam packaging.
"The mission of the new Alliance is to unite the world's EPS industry through increased co-operation and exchange of information. And to tackle the current levels of recycling EPS which vary enormously" explained Betty Steiner, Executive Director of the AFPR.
To support its work, the newly-formed International EPS Alliance, has formed a network linking packaging professionals, product manufacturers and government officials to exchange information about EPS environmental and solid waste management programmes. |
