EPS Packaging Industry challenges OEMS

An industry seminar hosted by the Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Packaging Group at Cardiff Castle on 18 October called for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) like Sony, Aiwa and Panasonic who attended the event to specify recycled polystyrene products when planning new product lines.

Andrew Barnetson, Environmental Affairs Manager, of the EPS Packaging Group challenged the delegates at the seminar to go back to work and purchase EPS recyclate: “Recycled EPS packaging can be made into replacement hardwood, a great product that looks and acts like wood.

“Another recyclate product has been recently developed by ATO. It is a crystal polystyrene Lacqrene WT 1451 that is made with 20 per cent EPS recyclate.

“By purchasing these products you will be helping to raise the levels of EPS recycling by increasing demand for the product", added Barnetson.

The two guest speakers were David Imlach of the Dixons Group and Paul Brown of Vencel Resil, the largest manufacturer of EPS insulation in the UK and an accredited recycler of EPS packaging.

The EPS Packaging Group is pleased with the interest in the seminar and hopes the discussions and the contacts made at the event will lead to new recycling routes being developed in Wales.
