EPS wins packaging prizes

EPS News is delighted to announce that two members of the EPS Packaging Group have recently been honoured in industry awards.

Silver Starpack 2000 Award goes to EPS packaging

Tuscarora won a Silver Starpack 2000 Transit Award for its packaging for range-style cookers made by Leisure Consumer Products.

The robust new packaging enables cookers weighing 148kg to be stacked six-high and handled by clamp truck without being damaged.

Tuscarora examined the stacking requirements and even included the production line in its investigations to be sure that the packaging could be applied easily and correctly. The result is a packaging solution that improves production efficiency and looks after the cookers.

Postal pack delivers prize for EPS manufacturer

An innovative postal pack which protects seedlings in transit has been honoured in the UK's Packaging Industry Awards.

The pack, manufactured from expanded polystyrene by Blackburn-based Protection Packaging Ltd, finished runner-up in the competitive Innovation category. Giving the product a 'Highly Commended' award, the judges said it substantially cut labour costs involved in packing, allowed growers to extend their range of offers, and promoted healthy growth of seedlings.

It is the UK's first stackable postal pack, the base of one unit serving as the lid of another. Gideon Woodhouse, horticultural products specialist at Protection Packaging, commented: "We're thrilled at the success of our postal pack which is the latest example of our policy of continuous innovation. It's particularly pleasing to have been recognised by experts in our own industry."
