Business Trends

The British Plastics Federation has published the Business Trends Survey 2000, a document that provides the most up-to-date information available on the UK plastics industry.

The report generates forecasts and provides historical information, equipping the reader with information on changes in price, stock levels, output, profitability and capital investment.

The BPF’s Business Trends Survey presents the consolidated opinion of 135 of the plastics industry’s leading decision-makers, reporting on 1999 and making forecasts for 2000. The combined turnover of respondents for 1999 was £4.6 billion, this equates to in excess of 25% of the UK plastics industry.

Business Trends Survey 2000 is available for £120. For copies, please contact the BPF Publications Dept on 0171 457 5000.

The Climate Change Levy - the fight goes on

The BPF has expressed its disappointment at the Chancellor's refusal to listen to the experience and advice of the UK Plastics Industry with regard to his determination to legislate for a Climate Change Levy.

Peter Davis, Director General at the BPF comments: "It is deeply disappointing that the Chancellor has done nothing to limit the damage that will be done to competitiveness in our industry by the Climate Change Levy.

"We support the need for energy reduction— indeed plastics has reduced energy consumption by 27% over 10 years —but the Levy is a fundamentally flawed means of achieving this key aim.

The BPF will continue to fight for a better deal for our industry through the debate on the Finance Bill."
