Epson Telford is recycling EPS packaging

Epson Telford Limited has signed up to a new-recycling partnership with Timbron International. The two companies agreed to start working together from January 2000 to compact and collect expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging which is then recycled into replacement wood and supplied to a major DIY chain in America.

As a major manufacturer of printers and ink cartridges Epson is supplied with many small components all packed in EPS. This leaves Epson with around 20 tons of EPS to dispose of each month, finding an efficient way to do this without resorting to landfill had proved a challenge until the recent agreement with Timbron.

Epson Warehouse Supervisor, Ian Evans explains: "With Timbron’s help we have found a solution to our EPS waste problem that does not involve landfill and that makes a positive contribution to the environment by making it possible to reduce the number of trees that are cut down."

"Timbron supplied and installed an EPS compacting machine on 8 January 2000 and gave us a week's training to teach us how to operate it.

“A steel container is kept on site to store the compacted EPS and the haulage is arranged and paid for by Timbron. In return Epson supplies the manpower to operate the compactor machine and the electricity to power it.”

“Best of all Timbron buys the compacted EPS from us and that covers our operational costs. The compactor even has some spare capacity so we might be able to take in waste EPS packaging from other local sources "

Timbron ships the EPS into the USA where it is recycled into products like skirting and dado and sold exclusively to The Home Depot, the largest home building supply retailer in the world.
