A new team is ready to lead the EPS group into the 21st century
On 15 September the outgoing Chairman of the Expanding Polystyrene (EPS) Packaging Group, Hugh Smith, officially handed the reins over to the new Chairman, Jack Acres and his new Vice-Chair, Jonathan Haddock. The EPS Packaging Group represents 85 per cent of the manufacturers, moulders and recyclers in the UK and is an important member of the British Plastics Federation.
Jack Acres, who is General Manager of LINPAC Moulded Foams, is clear about the task ahead. “I will be building on Hugh Smith’s excellent work of communicating the benefits of expanded polystyrene whilst maintaining a positive environmental policy for the product,” says Acres.
“The key challenge facing our industry is finding new ways to recycle and recover expanded polystyrene. I have no doubt that quest will lead us down completely new avenues over the coming years — it is going to be an interesting time for our industry and a very important one”.
Acres takes on this position at a time when the expanded polystyrene industry has been going through some dramatic changes. The acquisition of small companies by larger groups in recent years has completely altered the face of the EPS business in the UK, but Jack Acres is well-equipped to understand the changes.
“I have been working with EPS for 35 years and in that time I have been on both sides of the take-over experience. My current position gives me particular responsibility for our Chichester, S. Wales and Scunthorpe sites and I have just finished setting up a new Moulding Facility in Glasgow.”
That day-to-day working experience across the UK will be invaluable for the EPS Packaging Group as it heads into the 21st Century.
