Architects' Feast features an EPS Fish Box Table
On 3 July in London's Clerkenwell district, an unusual feast was staged as part of the London Festival of Architecture.
The venue was a disused petrol station, the title of the feast: The Filling Station and, the unsung hero was the humble EPS (expanded polystyrene) fish box.
With sponsorship from the BPF EPS Group, the event organisers Nicola Read and Crystal Bennes, created a gorgeous, sparkling-white table using fish boxes as building blocks.
The insulating properties of EPS were put to good use with ice packed in selected boxes to keep the oysters fresh and the absinthe jelly trifle chilled.
"The event was a huge success and the table looked even better than I dreamt possible," said Nicola Read, co-organiser of The Filling Station event.
"We encouraged people to take the EPS boxes home to reuse them after the event.
"One guest took some to build shelves with, I will be taking some myself for a summer play scheme and a local primary school plans to do take some for model-making."
