Recycling - From Washing Machine Packaging to Garden Trellis
In a move to reduce manufacturing waste destined for the landfill site, washing machine manufacturer, Hoover has teamed up with Cardiff-based Metpost.
Under a new agreement waste polystyrene from Hoover packaging is to be used in the manufacture of Metpost's recycled Nature's Choice trellis.
Hoover uses the expanded polystyrene as packaging for its washing machines and tumble dryers. As well as waste from the manufacturing process the Company also collects waste packaging from its washing machine "home delivery" service.
From now on, the polystyrene is to be processed, blended and extruded by Wetherby Ash Ltd — recyclers of waste expanded polystyrene — then assembled into an item far removed from the washing machine — garden trellis.
Marketed under the "Nature's Choice" brand from Metpost, the trellis made from 80% recycled polystyrene has the benefit of needing no maintenance as it will not fade or rot.
Commenting on the new initiative, Chris Mills, Managing Director of Metpost said, "Nature's Choice has always been an environmentally friendly product which takes polystyrene out of the waste stream. We are pleased to be working in partnership with Hoover, by recycling their waste polystyrene packaging".
Mike Osguthorpe, Manufacturing Director for Hoover said: "We are delighted with this development. As well as producing washing machines that have a reduced impact on the environment, we have reduced our waste by following a recycling route that gives further benefits to the consumer."
